New IRS Initiative

The IRS has reported that email phishing tax scams have increased by 400% for the upcoming filing season. Taxpayers should be aware that the IRS does not email taxpayers. In addition, taxpayers should be cautious about which tax filing software they use to file the tax returns.

Taxpayers should never provide personal information through an email correspondence or over the phone. Additionally, taxpayers should always consider a request for personal information from the IRS or any tax return software company via email as suspicious.

The IRS has provided the following email for taxpayer to report suspicious potential phishing tax scams to: [email protected]. Once a taxpayer’s information has been compromised it can take time and effort to resolve the issues with the IRS.
