Maryland Courts Schedule COVID-19 Reopening

Due to the presence of the Coronavirus disease (COVID-19), Maryland Circuit Courts, Maryland District Courts, and Maryland Litigation have been publicly closed and mostly closed since March. We have regularly been updating our Maryland Courts Coronavirus Closure Page with all closure and access updates.

However, the Maryland Circuit Courts and District Courts (including the Montgomery County Circuit Court) have announced that they will begin reopening towards normal operations beginning at 5:00 PM on June 5, 2020. We have read all Maryland Court Orders, and we are providing below the most current schedule for reopening the Maryland Court System. We will continue to update this page with alterations/adjustments to this schedule as they become available.

June 5, 2020: Everyone seeking access to a courthouse or court office will (1) have to answer health-screening questions, (2) be subject to temperature checks, (3) wear a face covering, and (4) practice social distancing. All individuals who are denied access to the Court will be provided information on conducting the proceedings remotely or having them rescheduled.

June 5, 2020: Beginning at 5:00 PM, the Court will issue an expansion of the emergency actions that must continue to be staffed by the Court.

June 8, 2020: First full day of resumed Court operations.

July 20, 2020: The Court will expansion of list of matters that will be staffed by the Court.

July 20, 2020: The Court will reopen district and circuit court clerk’s offices to the public.

July 20, 2020: Certain nonjury trials in circuit and district court will resume. Information on which trials will be given to litigants.

July 20, 2020: Circuit courts will resume hearing on (1) motions requiring witness testimony, (2) deferred sentencing hearings, (3) attorney disciplinary proceedings, (4) settlement hearings, (5) court-ordered mediations in family law cases, (6) adoptions, and (7) contested hearings for termination of parental rights.

July 25, 2020: Eviction and foreclosure proceedings, stayed under a prior COVID-19-related emergency order, will resume.

August 31, 2020: Full resumption of all nonjury criminal and civil trials in circuit and district court.

October 5, 2020: All Maryland circuit courts and district courts will resume full operations, including jury trials in criminal and civil case types in the circuit court.
