As a Member at Longman & Van Grack, Sean Griffin leverages his extensive litigation, commercial, business, and cybersecurity expertise to help clients resolve complex civil litigation matters, address contract and fraud disputes, protect their data and privacy, and comply with government regulations. Sean has 30+ years of experience representing various organizations, including insurance companies, government contractors, construction companies, and law firms in federal and state courts across the country. Sean is a Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP/US), a certified Artificial Intelligence Governance Professional (AIGP), and a frequent speaker and author on data security and privacy issues. Additionally, the firm is a Member of the Maryland Building Industry Association (MBIA) as well as the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB), and Sean speaks and writes frequently about activities and changes in laws which address the commercial and home building industry.

In addition to his litigation expertise, Sean helps clients comply with cybersecurity laws and manage their artificial intelligence initiatives. Sean is a Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP/US), and in 2025, he became one of the world’s first certified Artificial Intelligence Governance Professionals (AIGP). He speaks regularly at industry events and bar association meetings around the country about legal issues surrounding cybersecurity, privacy, and artificial intelligence.
Sean began his legal career with a government contracts firm, followed by a period as a clerk for the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland. Later, Sean joined the U.S. Department of Justice, Civil Division, as a trial attorney, where he handled commercial litigation trials and appeals, as well as government contract and construction litigation. After the Department of Justice, Sean became defense and coverage counsel for insurance companies around the country and began addressing about cybersecurity (then called “information security”).
Sean is currently the Secretary-Treasurer of the Federation of Defense & Corporate Counsel (“FDCC”) and will assume the FDCC’s presidency in July 2027. He also chairs the AI Committee of the International Association of Defense Counsel and the Artificial Intelligence Steering Committee of the Association of Defense Trial Attorneys (“ADTA”). Sean also serves as a Vice Chair on DRI’s Center for Law and Public Policy. Additionally, Sean is a member of the International Association of Defense Counsel (“IADC”), where he Co-Chairs the AI Committee and serves as a Vice Chair of the Cyber Security, Data Privacy and Technology Committee. Sean is also a member of the Association of Defense Trial Attorneys (“ADTA”), where he Chairs the Artificial Intelligence Steering Committee.
